Tennessee Democrat Steve Cohen announces end to House re-election bid

Democratic Rep. Steve Cohen of Tennessee introduced on Friday that he has signed a doc requesting not to be included on the poll in Tennessee’s ninth Congressional District.

The congressman described the district decided by “new lines” as “nothing like the 9th district that I’ve represented.”

The Democratic main within the district is scheduled to happen in August.

Speaking after his announcement, Cohen described President Donald Trump as “the greatest threat to democracy, and to… decorum… and grace, that we’ve ever seen.”

Cohen is ending his re-election bid after greater than 19 years in Congress — he took workplace in early 2007.

“Candidates who previously qualified for 2026 congressional elections may run in the new district that has the same district number. Candidates who wish to change districts or withdraw may do so by filing a notarized statement with the State Division of Elections, attention Coordinator of Elections,” in accordance to a press release posted on the Tennessee secretary of state’s web site.
