The New One, Says Mel Brooks
Mel Brooks had a galactic announcement at CinemaCon: the title for the upcoming Spaceballs sequel. No, it is not Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money.
It’s merely Spaceballs: The New Oneas he revealed through a video at CinemaCon on Wednesday night time.
The function is the sequel to Brooks’ seminal 1987 Star Wars parody, which he directed and co-wrote. Original members of the returning solid embrace Rick Moranis, George Wyner, Daphne Zuniga, Bill Pullman and Brooks.
Pullman’s are, Thunderbolts and Top Gun: Maverick actor Lewis Pullman, is among the many new castmembers, together with Josh GadKeke Palmer and Anthony Carrigan. Their roles are a secret, although The Hollywood Reporter beforehand reported that the youthful Pullman will play the son of his father’s character, the Han Solo-esque Lone Starr.
The movie’s first footage debuted throughout the CinemaCon presentation, with a narrator saying in voiceover concerning the film’s group, “While they can’t show you much, they can show you a series of clips that make little sense out of context.”
At the top of the footage, a personality showing to be a member of the Na’vi from Avatar takes a spot at a urinal subsequent to Moranis and unleashes a hearty stream. “I see you,” Moranis tells his new, a lot taller pal within the Na’vi language.
Josh Greenbaum is directed from a script by Gad, Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez. The function has a launch date of April 23, 2027, from Amazon MGM Studios.
Imagine’s Ron Howard, Brian Grazer and Jeb Brody are producing alongside Gad, Brooks and Greenbaum.
In 2024, Gad teased the sequel in an Instagram post. “Just handed in a film script that I think may be the funniest and best thing I’ve ever worked on and I am so freaking excited,” Gad captioned the publish on the time. He added that working with Samit and Hernandez “has been heaven on Earth and many other planets as well. Love you boys!”
CinemaCon is the annual occasion for exhibitors and Hollywood studios that runs this 12 months from April 13-16. It is the official conference of Cinema United.
