Dak Prescott, Troy Aikman share the stage for Children’s Cancer Fund Gala
“This event has changed a lot from the beginning,” Aikman stated, noting its evolution from a luncheon to a dinner and now a fashion-show-themed gala. “I keep thinking that one of these years we won’t have it, that we’ll find a cure. It’s pretty remarkable that we haven’t.
“I had lunch with Roger Staubach at the moment — he is the one who received me concerned, after which I received Dak concerned,” Aikman added. “I advised him tonight was the massive gala, and I talked about how a lot I missed it and needed me to inform everybody howdy. But yeah, it is an awesome night time for these youngsters.”
Prescott, who referred to as the night a “stunning night time,” didn’t need much convincing to get involved.
“When Roger Staubach and Troy Aikman name you and inform you they have been a part of one thing for 30 years, you are saying, ‘Hey, signal me up,'” Prescott said. “It’s not about following them — it is about inspiring the youngsters, being there for them and their households, and being the neighbor God permits me to be.”
Now a father of two, Prescott said becoming a parent has changed his perspective, expanding his focus beyond the children to include their parents and support systems.
“Definitely being a mother or father now, you empathize with the dad and mom,” Prescott said. “Before, my perspective was simply by means of the eyes of the child — can I make them pleased, can I lighten their day, give them a second outdoors the adversity they are going by means of?
“Now it’s the parents, too,” he continued. “When I meet them, I try to give them just as much love, because losing my mom to cancer, I understand that sometimes the parents need the same support as the patients. Whether it’s a hug, a smile, a donation, or just being there — it all matters.”
Aikman stated he believes being an NFL participant — significantly a quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys — carries an added duty to offer again.
“I think being the Cowboys quarterback, being an NFL player, puts you in a position to help others,” Aikman stated. “There are so many players around the league who give back to their communities, and they take that responsibility seriously.
“There’s a legacy with Cowboys quarterbacks, particularly with this occasion and the Children’s Cancer Fund,” he added. “Roger was the proper man. I hope I used to be when he requested me. And I do know Dak is. He represents himself, the group, and every thing good about it — and I’m thrilled he is carrying that legacy ahead.”
