US and Iran trade fire in Strait of Hormuz; each claims other shot first

The US and Iran opened fire in the Strait of Hormuz, with each aspect claiming the other initiated the assault.
US Central Command in an announcement stated its forces “intercepted unprovoked Iranian attacks and responded with self-defense strikes” as three US Navy destroyers transited the strait late Thursday.
“Iranian forces launched multiple missiles, drones and small boats” because the US ships have been passing towards the Gulf of Oman, CENTCOM stated. “No US assets were struck.”
CENTCOM “eliminated inbound threats and targeted Iranian military facilities responsible for attacking US forces including missile and drone launch sites; command and control locations; and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance nodes,” its assertion stated.
“CENTCOM does not seek escalation but remains positioned and ready to protect American forces.”
Earlier, Iran accused the US of violating the 2 international locations’ fragile ceasefire by hanging a number of targets in and across the strait, a central chokepoint in the continuing battle.
“The aggressive, terrorist, and bandit American army, violating the ceasefire, targeted an Iranian tanker that was moving from Iranian coastal waters” towards the strait, an Iranian army official stated in an announcement to state information retailers.
Iran’s armed forces “immediately retaliated by attacking US military vessels east of the Strait of Hormuz and south of Chabahar Port, causing significant damage to them,” the spokesperson stated, in accordance with a translation of the reported assertion.
CENTCOM’s assertion doesn’t point out the ceasefire, which started on April 8 and had already been badly frayed by repeated accusations that its phrases are being breached.
The White House and the Pentagon didn’t instantly reply to CNBC’s requests for touch upon information of the strikes.
