Commandment Gets Back to Work, Belmont Stakes Next

Wathnan Racing’s commandment (Into Mischief), seventh with a less-than-ideal journey within the GI Kentucky Derby, has begun to gear up for the GI Belmont Stakes at Saratoga June 6.
The G.I. Curlin Florida Derby winner breezed 4 furlongs for coach Brad Cox in firm in :48.80 (29/83) at Churchill Downs Friday, his first transfer because the Kentucky Derby.
“The breeze went well today and he’s come out of the Derby in good order,” stated Case Clay, Wathnan’s Racing Manager, USA. “We’ll shoot for the Belmont now.”
Clay continued, “He did a nice, good smooth breeze. He went in :48 2/5 and 1:01 1/5, and galloped out in 1:15. Just a good, smooth breeze. Went in company. We feel good about how he came out of the Derby. Just gonna point to the Belmont now and hope for the best.”
Off at odds of 6-1 within the Kentucky Derby, Commandment was off to a sluggish begin and raced on thirteenth by a half mile in :46.44. On the transfer whereas not less than 5 huge beneath Luis Saez on the far flip, he kicked for dwelling with an enormous probability regardless of taking the overland route. Bounced round in visitors racing between rivals within the stretch, Commandment failed to threaten from there and crossed the wire 5 1/4 lengths behind upset winner and ‘TDN Rising Star, offered by Hagyard’ Golden Tempo (Curlin).
“We were confident going into the Derby and still confident going into the Belmont,” Clay concluded. “He’s doing well and that’s all we can ask for.”
