Russell Brand Admits He ‘Didn’t Handle’ Marriage to Katy Perry ‘Well,’ Reveals If They Keep in Touch

Russell Brand is opening up about his marriage to Katy Perrywhich lasted from 2010 to 2012.

During the Forgetting Sarah Marshall actor’s look on the Wednesday, April 22, episode of The Megyn Kelly ShowBrand admitted to host Megyn Kelly“I didn’t handle that marriage very well.”

When Kelly, 55, identified that Brand, 50, was “married to celebrity himself,” he agreed and stated that it was “overwhelming” being in a relationship that moved so shortly so publicly.

Calling the “Firework” singer, 41, “really lovely,” Brand stated of his ex-wife: “She you have an innocenceshe’s a very beautiful person. “She’s also incredibly driven and worked really, really hard.”

“Here’s me taking total responsibility for all the mistakes I made in that marriage,” he continued. “I felt like I was inadequate and not enough on my own.”

Brand said the dissolution of their marriage, which only lasted 14 months before he filed for divorce, was “my fault.”

“I pushed to get married early because I felt inadequate and insecure and like I wasn’t enough — and that if I was married to her, I would somehow be a better person and more important,” he confessed. “And that put her under an unnecessary amount of pressure and strain.”

At the time, he explained that the celebrated pop star was simultaneously “pursuing her dream,” adding that “when she was doing that, I was in sort of a crisis of, like: Hold on a minute. I’m lonely, and this isn’t working.”

Kelly asked Brand if he and Perry — who is now dating former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau — keep in touch considering “she said you never contacted her again after you sent her a note saying you wanted a divorce.”

Brand revealed, “Look, that is true.”

However, he said, “I keep in contact together with her father, Keith, and her mom, Mary, as a result of they’re good Christian people. And I have to say I really feel a great deal of sympathy with the current allegations around Katy.”

Perry’s rep has vehemently denied Ruby Rose‘s recent allegations that the singer sexually assaulted her 16 years in the past.

When Kelly identified that the Orange Is the New Black alum, 40, claimed Perry rubbed her vagina on her face, Brand stated jokingly, “I mean this is probably the old school man in me. I don’t even hear the crime there.”
