Rain and storms on Wednesday

Impact Weather Wednesday: Rain and storms within the Baltimore area

A chilly entrance will transfer by means of the realm with rain and storms adopted by cooler temperatures

ALL RIGHT. WELCOME BACK. 516. IT’S WEDNESDAY, MAY 6TH. AND TODAY WE’RE IMPACT WEATHER MODE BECAUSE WE’RE EXPECTING WIDESPREAD RAIN TO MOVE IN ACROSS THE REGION, ESPECIALLY AFTER SUNRISE, AND LAST FOR SEVERAL HOURS WITH AN ADDITIONAL ROUND OF RAIN AND THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE THIS AFTERNOON. SO AS WE LOOK AT OUR TIMELINE HERE, BETWEEN 7 AND 11 AM, THE RAIN WILL BE MOSTLY WIDESPREAD, COULD BE HEAVY IN SPOTS, AND THEN IT EVENTUALLY TAPERS OFF SHORTLY AFTER, I WOULD SAY LUNCHTIME BETWEEN NOON AND 2 PM I THINK THAT’S WHERE WE’RE GOING TO SEE THE BIGGEST BREAK IN THE PRECIPITATION. BUT AFTER 4:00 AND THEN INTO THE SECOND HALF OF THE DAY, THAT’S WHERE WE’RE EXPECTING THAT CHANCE FOR SHOWERS AND MAYBE EVEN A FEW THUNDERSTORMS TO FORM ALONG A COLD FRONT ONCE IT SWINGS THROUGH. AND THEN OVERNIGHT, ANOTHER ROUND OF RAIN POSSIBLE, ESPECIALLY JUST TO THE SOUTH AND EAST OF WHEREVER THAT FRONT STALLS. YOU SEE OUR FUTURECAST MODEL HERE TAKING YOU THROUGH 6:00 IN THE MORNING. STILL DRY. SAME FOR MOST OF THE 7:00 HOUR. BUT AFTER THAT RAIN WILL FILL IN FROM WEST TO EAST AS WE MOVE THROUGH THIS MORNING, IT TAPERS OFF AS WE HEAD THROUGH MIDDAY AND TEMPERATURES MAY RESPOND NICELY IF WE DRY OUT AND GET THE SUNSHINE. IF WE DON’T HAVE THE SUN, WE MAY NOT MAKE IT ABOVE 70 OR 71 DEGREES, BUT THIS HIGH RESOLUTION MODEL TRYING TO PICK UP ON MID TO UPPER 70S THIS AFTERNOON BECAUSE IT THINKS WILL CLEAR OUT PRETTY QUICKLY. BUT I THINK MOST CASES WE’LL SEE A MOSTLY CLOUDY SKY WITH TEMPERATURES NEAR 70. AND THEN THIS AFTERNOON, AROUND 4 OR 5:00, HERE COMES THAT COLD FRONT THAT’S GOING TO PUSH THROUGH AS WE HEAD THROUGH THE AFTERNOON. AND THAT WILL BRING US THAT CHANCE FOR HEAVIER RAIN, SOME GUSTY WIND AND SOME FREQUENT LIGHTNING WITHIN ANY THUNDERSTORM THAT DEVELOPS. BUT FOR NOW, INSTABILITY IS NOT LOOKING VERY HIGH, WHICH MEANS THE THUNDERSTORM THREAT DOES NOT LOOK SEVERE TODAY. BUT THERE COULD BE JUST ENOUGH OF A HEAVIER RAIN THAT IT CREATES SOME PONDING ON THE ROADS. YOU CAN SEE HERE AT MIDNIGHT WE STOPPED THE CLOCK BECAUSE THERE’S ANOTHER CHANCE OF RAIN MOVING THROUGH THAT. AT THAT POINT WHERE SHOWERS WILL BE LIKELY, AND THEN EVENTUALLY THOSE SHOWERS TAPER OFF THROUGH SUNRISE ON THURSDAY MORNING. SO THURSDAY MORNING YOU MAY WAKE UP TO SOME DAMP ROADS, IF NOT A BRIEF SHOWER WITH ONLY A SMALL CHANCE OF RAIN REDEVELOPING THURSDAY AFTERNOON. BUT I THINK FOR THE MOST PART, THURSDAY TOWARDS THE EVENING AT LEAST WILL BE A LOT DRIER AND CLOUDS WILL BE CLEARING OUT BY THEN. ACCUMULATION FROM THE RAINFALL TODAY AND INTO TOMORROW. YOU CAN SEE SOME SPOTS PICKING UP ON A HALF OF AN INCH, IF NOT GREATER THAN THAT. BUT I WOULD SAY ON AVERAGE AREA WIDE FROM CENTRAL MARYLAND TO THE EASTERN SHORE, A QUARTER TO HALF OF AN INCH POSSIBLE, WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS WITHIN ANY AREA THAT GETS HIT WITH A THUNDERSTORM. SO FORECAST FOR TODAY AS WE BREAK THAT DOWN FOR YOU HERE. RAIN WILL BE LIKELY THIS MORNING. SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS THIS AFTERNOON AND TEMPERATURES THAT WILL BE IN THE UPPER 60S AND LOW 70S. THEN TONIGHT GETS A LITTLE COOLER. THOSE CLOUDS CLEAR. WE MAY EVEN MAKE IT TO THE LOW 50S BY DAYBREAK ON THURSDAY, BUT DEFINITELY THAT CHANCE FOR A FEW SHOWERS STILL EXPECTED AS WE HEAD THROUGH THIS EVENING INTO THE OVERNIGHT HOURS. YOUR SEVEN DAY FORECAST AS WE MOVE AHEAD THROUGH THE NEXT WEEK OR SO. YOU CAN SEE HERE 60 ON THURSDAY, BUT LOW 60S. SO A PRETTY BIG COOLDOWN. ESPECIALLY WHEN YESTERDAY WE WERE AT 85 DEGREES 68. FRIDAY AFTERNOON MAINLY SUNNY, UPPER 60S TO AROUND 70 ON SATURDAY WITH A CHANCE OF RAIN AND AGAIN MOTHER’S DAY STILL LOOKING MAINLY DRY WIT
