BTS skips 2027 Grammy Awards submissions, rejects new Asian pop category
In social media posts, the group argued that their songs needs to be judged independently of area or language.
BTS is not going to submit any music for consideration at subsequent 12 months’s Grammy Awards, the boy band introduced Wednesday.
“We decided not to submit to the Grammys this year,” the members wrote on their respective social media accounts. “We want music to be heard and loved for what it is, rather than categorized by region or language.”
The resolution seems to be a pointed rebuke of the Recording Academy’s introduction of 5 new classes in June, together with Best Asian Pop Music Performance. The category acknowledges performances “originating from or widely recognized in Asian markets” that make “meaningful use of one or more Asian languages.”
The Recording Academy is at present accepting entries for the 69th Grammy Awards, with the web entry interval working from July 7 by way of Aug. 21.
