A Pittsburgh household is elevating cash to carry the physique of their cherished one residence after she suffered a medical emergency whereas on trip in the Dominican Republic.
Carolyn Russel’s sisters stated that she turned ailing throughout a household journey to Punta Cana, per WPXI. They stated the issues began simply days into their weeklong trip.
“We went on an excursion to see some monkeys and then on the way back, she threw up,” Russell’s sister Patricia Powell recalled.
Days later, the household believes, Russel skilled a diabetic emergencywhich brought on her to enter cardiac arrest at the hospital. Russel remained there on a ventilatorthe household stated, as, at first, they tried to boost the funds to carry her again to the US for remedy.
“No one can seem to be able to help us,” Powell stated at the time. “We’ve been to the US Embassy. All they did was give us phone numbers to call the medevac to see how much they cost.”
Russel’s different sister, Deborah Marshall, instructed the outlet that Russel didn’t have medical health insurance, so it may price roughly $55,000 to move her again to Pittsburgh. They initially launched a GoFundMe to pay for Russel’s companies, which “would include the ambulance, the doctor, the ventilator she’s on, the air ride,” Marshall instructed WPXI.
According to the GFM, “The hospital staff had done what they could, but unfortunately, the facility was not equipped to provide the level of care she urgently needed.”

On May 12, the household up to date the GoFundMe with the unhappy information that Russel had “passed away due to her going back into cardiac arrest. We are currently still in need of financial help so that our Family is able to fly her body home.”
