Jose Benavidez Sr: Jai Opetaia is a ‘tune-up’ for son David
The former sparring companions turned multi-weight champions take prime billing at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena atop a pay-per-view card Amazon’s Prime Video and DAZN will distribute within the United States, beginning at 8 pm ET (5 pm PT; $79.99). Subscribers to DAZN’s Ultimate plan can view the Benavidez-Ramirez present for no extra cost.
“Is he a dangerous fighter? Not now,” Benavidez Sr. advised Sean Zittel on his YouTube channel. “I believe in a couple of years. To me, it is like taking a tune-up with Opetaia at this level.”
Benavidez Sr. watched the struggle and believes Opetaia has a lot to work on.
“Opetaia, I think he’s a great fighter. He’s doing well but still needs experience. In his last fight, I think he held back; he looked a little tired and was struggling in there. He did win pretty much all the rounds but I just think he needs a little more experience [at world-level]. “We’d struggle him tomorrow.”
