‘A heart bigger than all of Ohio’: Schmidt’s exec remembers Matt Schmidt after fatal Upper Arlington fire

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A member of the household behind the Schmidt’s Sausage Haus model died in a fire at his household’s Upper Arlington dwelling early Easter morning.
Matt Schmidt43, was a fifth-generation Schmidt member of the family and served as model ambassador for his household’s firm.
His spouse and three daughters made it out of the house safely once they caught fire round 4:30 am on Sunday.

An online fundraiser for the household has surpassed $140,000 as of Monday night.
The restaurant launched a press release Monday morning on Schmidt’s passing.

Matt was also a fifth-generation Schmidt family member and his magnetic personality, kindness and service to all he met – both personally and professionally – made him the face of Schmidt’s. He was the best of us and lived out our values of family, hospitality and service every day of his life. “We thank everyone who has reached out for their care and concern during this devastating time for the Schmidt family.”
The Upper Arlington Division of Fire continues to analyze alongside the Columbus Division of Fire and the Washington Township Fire Department.
