80-year-old man arrested after police discover explosives in West Bountiful home


WEST BOUNTIFUL, Utah (ABC4) — A Utah man has been arrested after police found dynamite saved close to a 2500-gallon tank of diesel gas at his home.

Dwayne Raymond Hughes, 80, has been arrested on one rely of possessing an explosive (second-degree felony), one rely of illegal possession of fireworks (Class B misdemeanor), and one rely of reckless endangerment (Class A misdemeanor).

According to courtroom paperwork, on April 25, the police responded to a residence in West Bountiful for a home violence incident between the home-owner and his son. During the son’s arrest, he advised an officer that his father, Dwayne Raymond Hughes, had explosives on his property.

After reserving the son into jail, the officer returned to Hughes’ home. He confirmed the officer a container with dynamite saved adjoining to a 2500-gallon tank of Diesel gas. Additionally, an empty field with an explosives closet and fireworks have been noticed in the yard.
