Lexington to participate in statewide tornado drill Wednesday
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – Lexington Emergency Management introduced the town’s plans for the annual statewide tornado drill.
The drill is a part of Kentucky’s Severe Weather Awareness Week, which is supposed to remind folks to be “weather ready” for every type of hazards, in accordance to the National Weather Service.
On Wednesday, March 4, at 10:07 am, the statewide drill will happen with Lexington Emergency Management collaborating.
The company said they’d be testing the present tornado warning sirens right now and that the sirens would sound for about two minutes. They suggested folks not to name 911 in the course of the check.
The LexAlerts notification system may also ship a check message to those that are signed up for climate alerts, Lexington Emergency Management mentioned, and the message will start with “this is a test.”
As a part of the statewide drill, alerts will activate the Emergency Alert System, which incorporates NOAA Weather Radio, native tv, radio stations and cable override. The drill won’t set off a Wireless Emergency Alert on cellphones.
Lexington Emergency Management inspired all Kentuckians to observe tornado security in the course of the drill, and mentioned the drill could be canceled or postponed if inclement climate is forecast.
