Tigers place Justin Verlander on 15-day IL with hip injury


DETROIT — Justin Verlander‘s long-awaited return to Comerica Park as a member of the Detroit Tigers was put on maintain Saturday.

Verlander, the main league’s oldest energetic participant at 43, was positioned on the 15-day injured listing with left hip irritation. On Sunday evening, Verlander was scheduled to make his first begin in a Tigers uniform at Detroit’s dwelling park since Aug. 20, 2017.

Verlander was dealt to Houston on the commerce deadline that season. He re-signed with Detroit on a one-year, $13 million contract in February after spending final season with San Francisco.

Verlander made 380 begins for Detroit from 2005 to 2017. In his first begin this season, Verlander gave up 5 runs and 6 hits in 3⅔ innings in opposition to Arizona on Monday and took the loss.

RHP Keider Montero was recalled from Triple-A Toledo and is anticipated to begin the finale of a three-game sequence in opposition to St. Louis.
