Executive director of church missionary department dies of traumatic brain injury

SALT LAKE CITY — Elder W. Mark Bassett, a common authority seventy who had been serving since April 2016, has died resulting from a traumatic brain injury, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints introduced Monday.

Elder Bassett, 59, was along with his household in St. George when an incident occurred, in line with a church press launch — though officers didn’t point out what occurred.

At the time of his loss of life, Elder Bassett was serving as government director of the church missionary department, overseeing worldwide missionary efforts.
