Executive director of church missionary department dies of traumatic brain injury


SALT LAKE CITY — Elder W. Mark Bassett, a common authority seventy who had been serving since April 2016, has died resulting from a traumatic brain injury, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints introduced Monday.

Elder Bassett, 59, was along with his household in St. George when an incident occurred, in line with a church press launch — though officers didn’t point out what occurred.

At the time of his loss of life, Elder Bassett was serving as government director of the church missionary department, overseeing worldwide missionary efforts. During his time on this calling, the church mentioned it was a interval of historic progress in missionary efforts around the globe and of an unprecedented quantity of missionaries deciding to serve.

“Elder Bassett will be deeply missed and always remembered for his great faith and dedicated service to the Lord Jesus Christ,” an announcement from the church reads.

Elder Bassett is survived by his spouse Angela, his youngsters and his grandchildren.
