Cuba says 4 killed after speedboat from Florida entered Cuban waters and opened fire

Four persons are useless after a speedboat from Florida entered Cuban waters and started firing on border patrol troops on Wednesday morning, the Cuban Ministry of the Interior stated.

The ship was one nautical mile northeast of the El Pino canal in Cayo Falcones, the ministry stated in a statements. When 5 members of the Border Guard Troops approached the boat for identification, these aboard the speedboat allegedly started capturing. The commander of the Cuban boat was injured, the ministry stated.

“As a result of the confrontation,” 4 individuals aboard the speedboat had been killed and six had been injured, the ministry stated. The injured events “were evacuated and received medical assistance.”

It shouldn’t be clear who was within the Florida-registered speedboat, the place they had been from or what their purpose was for coming into Cuban waters or opening fire. An investigation is ongoing, the ministry stated.

The Cuban authorities said it “ratifies its willingness to protect territorial waters, based on the fact that national defense is a fundamental pillar for the Cuban State in favor of the protection of its sovereignty and stability in the region.”
