UFC finally rolls out new Meta AI fighter rankings after years of complaints

For years, UFC’s rankings have been a constant source of frustration. Whether it was inconsistency, fighters remaining ranked regardless of inactivity, weird motion from week to week, or perceived bias from the media panel, White has made it very clear that he has by no means been a fan of the present system.

Today (Mon., June 22, 2026), UFC launched its new Meta rankings (check them here) and introduced that it “will begin the transition of its official rankings from the traditional media panel toward Meta UFC Rankings, offering an innovative new approach to rankings determined entirely by fight data.”
In a press launch, UFC defined how the new system will work:
“Meta UFC Rankings will be automatically calculated and updated by Monday following every official UFC event. To determine individual athlete ranks, the system combines statistical modeling and machine learning with the deep domain expertise of the UFC. It evaluates a comprehensive set of objective metrics, including outcome probability, win type, fighter trajectory, and weight-class sensitivities.”
In different phrases, not all wins and losses shall be handled equally.

Under the new rating system:
Finishes will apply a small bonus to fighter rankings

Beating a higher-ranked opponent will carry extra weight than defeating a lower-ranked one.
