Three earthquakes reported in Nebraska on Sunday; Community members react
COWLES, Neb. (KOLN) – Nebraskans may’ve felt the earth shake on Sunday as a magnitude 4.1 earthquake was reported south of Hastings, three miles east of Cowles, as reported by the US Geological Survey. Almost an hour and a half later one other earthquake close by was reported, USGS reported it as a 2.6 magnitude earthquake. Sunday night time, a 3rd earthquake was reported by USGS round with a magnitude 2.6.
People from Beaver Crossing to Lincoln have reported feeling the earthquake, noting a faint rumbling of the ground or a rattling in their homes.
According to the USGS, the earthquake was first recorded at 12:59 pm The depth was round 2 miles, and traveled a minimal distance of 86 miles.
The second earthquake was recorded at 2:30 pm not too distant from the primary one. The depth was almost 3.5 miles.
The third earthquake was recorded at 8:45 pm extra south than the primary two. The depth was simply over three miles.
10/11 News spoke with a few folks on Sunday who skilled the earthquake.
“I was looking at my phone sitting at the table and I thought at first it was the fridge or something,” Richard Webb mentioned.
Some folks mistook the quake for one thing else, whether or not that was a passing practice or a shaking canine.
“Pretty much what happened I was laying in bed and and all the sudden I felt shaking,” mentioned David Crable. “I thought it was my dog just shaking behind me but then I thought, there was no way that was my dog.”
