Threat of more oceanfront homes collapsing closes portion of Outer Banks beach :: WRAL.com
Cape Hatteras National Seashore has introduced the closure of some seashores because of the elevated danger of collapse for one or more threatened oceanfront homes in Buxton and Rodanthe.
Officials are urging all visitors to be cautious through Saturday, April 11, on east-facing seashores because of the risk of coastal erosion and its results on these buildings.
Cape Hatteras National Seashore stated Tuesday that all the beach in entrance of the village of Buxton was closed because of the risk to oceanfront buildings and in or close to the ocean.
“The proximity of these structures to seashore lands poses a serious risk to visitors walking along the beach or wading in the surf,” Cape Hatteras wrote on its Facebook web page.
A stretch of beach can be closed from the south finish of Buxton extending to only north of off-road automobile ramp 43.
Since 2020, 31 houses have fallen into the ocean at Cape Hatteras.
