Taron Egerton Says He’s Not ‘Right’ for James Bond Role

Don’t count on Taron Egerton to exchange Daniel Craig as 007.

As one of many main younger actors in British cinema because of starring roles in movies comparable to “Rocketman” and the “Kingsman” collection, Egerton has lengthy been tipped as one of many names to take over as James Bond.

In a brand new crimson carpet interview with Variety AU/NZHowever, Egerton insisted he would not see himself as the long-lasting spy.

“I don’t think I’m right for James Bond,” he mentioned. “I’ve never felt that that was me.

Egerton continued: “I think there’s great candidates for it, and I think it’s obviously a huge cinematic institution. I don’t want to be dismissive about it as a thing. I just feel that my path is less… kind of grand and idealized.”

It’s not the first time Egerton has dismissed Bond talk.

I have told Collider in a 2025 interview that he didn’t think he was the right fit for Amazon’s new iteration of the iconic franchise.

When asked if he’d throw his hat in the ring for the part, Egerton said: “No. And I don’t think I’m a good choice for it. I think I’m too messy for that.”

He added that he really loves the character and “particularly Daniel Craig’s tenure. But I think I wouldn’t be good at it, and I think there’s so many cool, younger actors who would be great for it. I think it would be wasted on me, probably.”

Egerton appeared on the red carpet as Tropfest returned to Sydney’s Centennial Park on Sunday, February 22.

Tropfest had a very star-studded jury this year, featuring Egerton, “Avatar” and “Titanic” director James Cameron (showing just about), Australian filmmaker Danny Philippou, “Succession” star Sarah Snook, globally acclaimed producer Bruna Papandrea and trailblazing First Nations director Dylan River alongside President Margot Robbie.

Lianne Mackessy (Sydney, NSW) won for her film “Crescendo,” with the jury describing it as “absolutely pitch perfect.”
