San Antonians ‘mad as hell’ after Grammy winner’s appearance
Fans of a Grammy Award-winning singer anticipating a full-scale live performance in San Antonio final weekend left disillusioned after the occasion turned out extra like a membership appearance than a headlining act.
In a TikTok, @knowellthenomad documented “leaving That Venue after Leon Thomas performed his three songs,” captioning it, “lol at least we heard Mutt.” They weren’t the one ones taken abruptly, as the video racked up greater than 200,000 views and a whole lot of locals poured into the feedback to voice their frustration, one saying they have been “mad as hell.”
If you missed it, Victorious star and R&B singer Leon Thomas was set to carry out at That Venue at The Rim on April 17. However, many commenters underneath @knowellthenomad’s video mentioned they felt that the occasion was marketed extra like a live performance than a membership appearance, and so they thought they have been in for an extended expertise.
According to at least one commenter, the occasion was imagined to run from 11:30 pm to 2:15 am, however the DJ saved saying “‘give it up for Leon Thomas’ every couple minutes or so.” They added that “they even had a guy come out to make it look like it was him, then he left.” All in all, the commenter mentioned Thomas did not come on till 1 am and sang three songs, although “he sounded great.”
“Then it was back to the DJ playing a remix of [“MUTT”] that blended into [“Cha Cha Slide”] then everyone started leaving cause we were just like ‘????'” the commenter mentioned.
Others weren’t so shocked. One commenter mentioned, “Whenever an artist is at any type of club/venue like that, unfortunately, they will arrive an hour before closing & only perform a handful of songs. it’s just a guest appearance.” Another wrote that “y’all have to learn” the distinction.
This is not the primary time That Venue has caught warmth. Back in October 2025, an influencer slammed Pumpkin Fest, and the venue’s Bad Bunny pop-up forward of the Super Bowl was criticized when possession initially refused to permit guests to write down anti-ICE messages on a graffiti wall. Other guests who swung by earlier than the pop-up opened mentioned they felt their preview was a “waste of time” as a result of the build-out wasn’t absolutely full on the time.
MySA reached out to That Venue at The Rim for remark, however didn’t hear again on the time of publication.
