After two heats, Elana Meyers Taylor sits in second on the monobob. Meyers Taylor will go for the podium Monday as the final heat takes place. She’s no stranger to medaling at the Olympics, as Meyers Taylor took home the silver medal back in 2022.

MILAN — As impressive as the Swedes have been in Milan, their semifinal challenge against the US was a different beast. Sweden was a 28-to-1 underdog to win the game outright, according to BetMGM. A Swedish victory would have been the women’s hockey equivalent of the New York Giants helmet-catching the New England Patriots or Buster Douglas knocking out Mike Tyson.

It didn’t happen, and as expected, the US moves on to play for gold, which they last won in 2018.

The women’s gold match is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 19.

Atle Lie McGrath was in strong position to earn a medal in the slalom Monday, but the course had other plans. After taking a gate poorly, McGrath ended his run prematurely and expressed his frustration by throwing his poles and walking off the course.

McGrath was then captured on the broadcast laying in the snow near the fence on the side of the course.

It was a frustrating result for McGrath, who posted the fastest time in the event during Run 1 on Monday.

The slalom run was particularly rough early Monday morning. Roughly half the field registered DNF during Run 1.

It was a particularly snowy day early on, which may have led to all the mistakes and falls from the competitors.

After finishing fourth in the first heat, Team USA improved in the second heat of the two-man bobsled. After their run, Team USA was in first place in the heat.

But holding on to that spot proved difficult, as the three German teams — all of which finished in the top-3 in the first heat — had yet to go.

Sure enough, all three German teams passed the US, pushing Team USA to fourth eleven again in the second heat.

Heats 3 and 4 will take place Tuesday. Team USA should have a shot at the podium, but Germany might prove too difficult to overcome.

Kristen Santos-Griswold will not reach the podium in speed skating. The American fell short in the quarterfinal race, finishing in third place and being eliminated from the event.

Santos-Griswold took part in the third quarterfinal, where she finished just behind Xandra Velzeboer of the Netherlands and Korea’s Gilli Kim.

Santos-Griswold won the 1000m at the 2024 World Championship, so her early exit was a disappointment Monday.

For the first time ever, Sweden’s women’s curling team is 6-0 in the round-robin session. Sweden managed an early 6-4 win over Switzerland to remain undefeated.

The match came down to the final stone, as Sweden was able to clear Switzerland’s stone to take the win. With the win, Sweden remains the only undefeated team left in the round-robin session. The United States sits behind them, and are 4-1 entering Monday.

Elsewhere in curling, Canada’s women’s team beat China 10-5 on Monday. And Great Britain took down Denmark 7-2.

For a team that comfortably won all three of its group-stage games to secure a bye to the Olympic men’s hockey quarterfinals, the US will head to the knockout round with plenty of questions to answer.

The Americans weren’t as convincing as expected against a feeble group with no other credible medal threats.

A 5-1 victory over Germany on Sunday night served as a small step in the right direction. The US finally seized control of the game in the latter two periods after being held scoreless for nearly the entire opening session.

  • Another game, another dominant effort from Team USA. The red, white and blue beat Germany 5-1 to clinch Group C. Quarterfinal matchups begin Tuesday.

  • Germany gets a chance, but their power play is unsuccessful as it comes down to the wire in this game.

Following controversies involving double-touching stones in matches on Day 8 of the 2026 Winter Olympics, World Curling has made changes to its umpiring setup for the remainder of the men’s and women’s round-robin and playoff sessions.

On Saturday, Canada skip Rachel Homan had her first stone pulled in a match against Switzerland. Officials were asked why the call couldn’t be reviewed by video, but World Curling rules don’t allow for that during a match.

Great Britain’s Bobby Lammie had a stone removed during Sunday’s match versus Germany for the same reason. He appeared to be shocked by the ruling.

After consulting with the national committees of teams competing in the Winter Olympics, umpires will now only monitor player deliveries at the hog line upon a team request. Otherwise, the two umpires would be available during a match but not step in to rule on such a play because it was not possible to have an official stationed at each of the four hog lines.

  • Another goal for Team USA, another one for Auston Matthews! Noah Hanifin and Jake Sanderson assisted.

  • Team USA is rolling, adding another goal less than two minutes into the third period. Tage Thompson took a pass from Dylan Larkin and sent it straight into the net.

  • Speed skater Jutta Leerdam may be known to many as Jake Paul’s fiancée, making her a social media sensation. But if she isn’t already, Leerdam should be known as a two-time Olympic medalist after winning silver in Sunday’s 500 meters race.

Leerdam was a surprising finisher behind fellow Dutch skater Femke Kok. Perhaps that shouldn’t have been unexpected after the six-time World champion won gold in the 1,000 meters event and set an Olympic record.

The 500 meters race also drew attention among American fans for USA’s Erin Jackson finishing fifth after she went into the event expected to contend for a medal.
