Mom of 3 who vanished 24 years ago while Christmas shopping found ‘alive and well,’ authorities say

(Gray News) – A North Carolina mom who went lacking 24 years ago while going Christmas shopping has been found “alive and well,” in response to authorities.

On Feb. 20, (*3*) stated Michele Hundley Smith, 62, who was first reported lacking Dec. 31, 2001, had been found after detectives “received new information” about her disappearance.

Authorities made contact with Smith at an undisclosed location in North Carolina, “alive and well,” the sheriff’s workplace introduced.

Smith was 38-years-old on the time of his disappearance.

Her husband was the primary individual to report her missing back in 2001investigators stated.

She had left her residence to go Christmas shopping at a Kmart in Martinsville, Va., on Dec. 9, about 17 miles from her residence and by no means returned.

In 2020, her daughter Amanda Smith told NBC News that on the night in 2001 she remembered her mom kissing them goodnight and leaving their home round 8:30 pm

Amanda was 14 years outdated when her mom disappeared. His youthful brother was nearly 8. Their older sister was 19 and already out of the home.

Amanda stated her mom was at all times there once they acquired off the bus from faculty, cooked their favourite meals, and, while she wasn’t very strict, by no means allow them to get away with every thing.

At her request, her present whereabouts will stay undisclosed.

Officials stated Smith’s household was notified that she had been positioned and have been knowledgeable about her request to maintain her whereabouts undisclosed.
