Magnitude 3.5 earthquake shakes Utah County near Saratoga Springs
SARATOGA SPRINGS, Utah (KUTV) — A magnitude 3.5 earthquake struck less than 4 miles from Saratoga Springs in Utah County.
The earthquake was recorded at 12:53 pm Thursday with a magnitude of 3.5 and a depth of 4.8 miles, according to the US Geological Survey.
Several people reported feeling the quake, with preliminary information indicating that it was felt from Draper to Eagle Mountain.
There have been 100 quakes in Utah over the past two weeks, with the largest recorded at 4.7 magnitude, according to officials with the University of Utah Seismograph Stations. The smallest quake was recorded as a .3 magnitude.
The biggest quake happened on Jan. 22 near the Utah-Wyoming border. Over 1,500 people reported feeling it within half an hour.
Experts at Michigan Tech estimate that millions of earthquakes happen each year around the world. The majority of earthquakes are recorded as 2.5 magnitude or less.
