The Special Legislative Primary Election was Saturday, Feb. 7. Barthelemy II will face off in a runoff on March 14. Four candidates ran for the open seat after Joe Bouie stepped down to take the job as the President of Southern University of New Orleans. No one candidate was able to secure 50 percent of the vote. Both men are Democrats running as first-time candidates.State: Rep. District 97:House District 97 represents Gentilly and parts of the Seventh Ward. The seat was held by Matthew Willard, who won a seat on the New Orleans City Council in November. Two candidates were on the ballot, Eugene Green and Ed Murray, both Democrats. Murray is the projected winner of the race. State Rep. District 100: House District 100 represents New Orleans East from Crowder Boulevard to the St. Tammany Parish line. The seat was vacated by Jason Hughes, who won a seat on the New Orleans City Council, also representing New Orleans East and the Lower Ninth Ward. Five candidates ran for the open seat in the House, which is heading to a runoff. Those candidates were Patricia Boyd Robertson, Dana Henry, Eric Jones, Aeisha Kelly, Kenya Rounds, and Candice Taylor. No one candidate was able to secure 50 percent of the vote. Henry and Rounds will face off in a runoff on March 14. Both are Democrats.
