Saturday, May 2, is the day of the Kentucky Derby, the 152nd version of The Race for the Roses, within the first jewel of the Triple Crown of horse racing within the United States. The Triple Crown of the United States begins, like yearly, at Churchill Downs with the standard Kentucky Derby. In 2026, the race can be in its 152nd version, remembering that Sovereignty, with the Venezuelan Junior Alvarado as jockey, received in 2025. The day on the racecourse will start a number of hours earlier. Churchill Downs reported that gates will open at 9:00 a.m. ET and that the primary race of the day will start at 11:00 a.m. ET, as a part of the pre-Derby program.
