Dodgers Cut Anthony Banda Days Before Spring Training
The Los Angeles Dodgers designated pitcher Anthony Banda for assignment Friday, days before pitchers and catchers are due to report to the team’s spring training camp in Arizona.
Banda, a left-handed reliever, was a key member of the Dodgers’ bullpen that defeated the Toronto Blue Jays in seven games to win their second consecutive World Series title in November.

The Dodgers needed to make a corresponding roster move when they claimed catcher Ben Rortvedt from the Cincinnati Reds.
Surprisingly, the victim of the roster crunch was one of the team’s most reliable relief pitchers.
Banda, 32, was 8-3 with a 3.14 ERA in 119 games over the last two seasons. He was due to report with the team’s other pitchers by Feb. 13; many have already checked in to the team’s Camelback Ranch facility in Phoenix.
