Crews battle 600-acre wildland fire burning in Huerfano County
HUERFANO COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) – UPDATE: As of 11 pm Wednesday night time, Huerfano County deputies stated the fire was declared 100% contained.
ORIGINAL COVERAGE: Firefighters are battling a wildland fire in Huerfano County Wednesday night time.
The Huerfano County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) stated crews have been alerted to the fire at round 2:22 pm in the realm of County Road 122 and Ridge Road, southeast of Kiowa.
As of 8:40 p.m., the fire, dubbed the “Turkey Fire,” was reportedly roughly 600 acres and 80% contained.
Deputies stated the Colorado Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, Steel City and Shadow Mountain hotshots out of Pueblo, Gardner Fire Department, Rye Fire Department and Spanish Peaks Fire Department are helping in combating the fire.
The public is requested to keep away from the realm.
