Windy and icy conditions on Mackinac Bridge, motorists warned to take caution
STRAITS OF MACKINAC, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) — The Mackinac Bridge Authority is warning drivers to take caution as they are saying there are excessive winds and icy deck conditions.
Currently, there are excessive winds starting from 35 to 49 mph within the Straits space. They would require an escort for sure high-profile automobiles throughout the Mackinac Bridge.
Examples of high-profile automobiles embrace:
- pickup vehicles with campers
- vehicles with small boats, bicycles, or baggage connected to the roof
- ryder or U-Haul vehicles
- any car pulling a ship
- semi-tractors with enclosed trailers
- all trailers with aspect partitions over two toes in top
The Mackinac Bridge Authority says, “High-profile vehicles must be escorted.”
They ask that motorists scale back their pace to 20 mph when approaching the bridge and be ready to cease upon coming into.
Bridge personnel can be stationed at each ends of the bridge to instruct automobiles on when and how to cross the bridge.
According to the Mackinac Bridge Authority, “All vehicles must exercise appropriate caution. The Mackinac Bridge Authority is monitoring wind speeds at various points along the structure. Additional steps will be implemented if conditions change. If you are planning to travel to the Straits area, please tune to AM radio 530 or 1610 for updates.”
