Bryan Cranston says he could be back on Broadway next season
Bryan Cranston could quickly be back on the boards.
The two-time Tony winner informed me (shortly earlier than telling his good friend, “Careful what you say. He works for The Post!”) at Monday’s opening night time social gathering for “Celebrity Autobiography” that he expects the London revival of Arthur Miller’s “All My Sons,” which he starred alongside Marianne Jean-Baptiste and Paapa Essiedu, to move to Broadway next spring.
I noticed the play, which is directed by Ivo van Hove, back in December. And as is typical of the Belgian auteur liable for Broadway’s good, blood-soaked “A View From The Bridge,” it is seismic, starkly trendy and excellent.
Cranston and Jean-Baptiste are ferocious. And Essiedu, who performed Chris, gained the Olivier Award in April. Essiedu’s schedule could be powerful, although. He’s the brand new Professor Snape within the upcoming “Harry Potter” HBO TV collection. But, hey, Hogwarts let John Lithgow take some PTO this season for “Giant.”
“Breaking Bad” star Cranston was at Redeye Grill Monday night time after the humorous Broadway present “Celebrity Autobiography,” through which performers skewer bold-facers reminiscent of Céline Dion and David Hasselhoff learn their ridiculous memoirs aloud.
Cranston, whose theatrical profession hasn’t precisely been crammed with yuks, stated he needs in on the motion.
“I’d be honored if something that was found in my autobiography was read onstage,” the actor stated. “I’d be, like, ‘Oh my God, I bear in mind writing that!’ ”
Cranston was upstairs on the West 56th Street restaurant with Tom Hanks and Nia Vardalos celebrating Hanks’ spouse Rita Wilson, who is likely one of the present’s rotating readers, together with Gayle King, Vardalos, Kenan Thompson, Jackie Hoffman and plenty of extra.
He stated that as he sat down on the Shubert Theater Monday night time he readied himself in case Wilson set her sights on his autobiography.
“I wrote one 10 years in the past, and so I used to be questioning — as a result of Rita’s a good friend of mine — I believed, ‘Did she discover an excerpt from mine?’ ”he stated.
Luckily Cranston was spared, as a result of these crowds are undoubtedly laughing at the celebs — not with ’em.
When I identified to the 70-year-old actor that his final decade could simply warrant a Volume 2, he agreed.
“I have enough material for another book,” Cranston stated. “And then I’m in a group of character actors, friends, and we’re writing a book for charity of other stories. So I have three stories in there.”
The actor loves the stage and is at present two for 2 on the Tony Awards, for his performances as President Lyndon B. Johnson in “All The Way” and Howard Beale in “Network.” A 3-peat could be within the playing cards. Joe Keller is a towering, emotionally demanding function.
But, he stated, theater is a troublesome gig. And for a lot of Hollywood stars, it is fully off the desk.
“There’s no money in it,” Cranston stated. “You actually are losing money by doing theater. That’s how difficult it is for actors who are here in New York just doing theater. They have to constantly be working.”
