550-acre brush fire reported in Picayune Strand State Forest, 15% containment | Collier County


COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. (WINK) — Florida Forestry and Greater Naples Fire are on scene combating a 550-acre brush fire on the Picayune Strand State Forest.

According to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, crews are working the energetic brush fire situated on Newman Drive close to Beck Boulevard on Monday.

The Weather Authority can also be carefully monitoring circumstances.

Meteorologists Lauren Kreidler and Josh Green say Collier County and far of Southwest Florida are beneath a average danger of fire hazard on Monday because of breezy winds, dry air, and low humidity. ANDasterly winds may push smoke westward towards Naples and surrounding communities all through this night.

In addition, the Florida Forest Service says present winds are pushing westward, which can result in smoky circumstances alongside Collier Boulevard south of Interstate 75.

Caution is suggested for folks inside the space.

The sheriff’s workplace aviation unit has been deployed, dropping buckets of water on the brush fire.

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office has begun to evacuate a number of streets as a result of brush fire.

The following streets have been evacuated:

  • Benfield Road
  • Stable Way
  • Union Drive
  • Barton Gliba Drive
  • Beck Boulevard
  • Le Buff Road
