Here’s what caused power outage that sent Conestoga Valley students home early today [update] | Local News


A power outage that caused Conestoga Valley faculties to dismiss early Tuesday was caused after a pole was knocked down, in line with a PPL spokesperson.

The spokesperson did not say the place or how the PPL pole was knocked down however mentioned it concerned farm tools.

Conestoga Valley School District dismissed all students early Tuesday following the outage that affected about 6,700 PPL prospects in East Lampeter Township.

The PPL spokesperson mentioned the pole was knocked down round 11 am and that about 1,000 prospects remained with out power as of 1:44 pm

A message was left with East Lampeter Township police Tuesday afternoon in search of extra details about any potential incident that may have resulted within the pole being knocked down.

Lancaster County spokesperson Michael Fitzpatrick mentioned the outage didn’t have an effect on voters throughout Tuesday’s major election.

“The Elections Team prepare for all scenarios and have backup power supplies at all polling locations in the event of power outages,” he mentioned. “Our Elections Staff have been in regular communication with our Judges of Elections.”

An electronic mail from Conestoga Valley spokesperson Kathryn O’Dell simply earlier than midday Tuesday mentioned the district was dismissing all students early “due to a large-scale power outage affecting a large portion of our District.”

O’Dell mentioned the district was planning to dismiss elementary and highschool students at 12:30 pm and all elementary faculties could be dismissed at 1:30 and 1:40 pm

“At this time, the affected buildings are the high school, middle school, Leola Elementary, and Smoketown Elementary (including the elementary CVVA learning center),” she wrote. “However, because of the logistics of coordinating buses and students who may be in buildings other than their home buildings, we are dismissing ALL buildings early.”

O’Dell added Steps2Success students would stay at Smoketown and Leola elementary faculties till dad and mom and guardians may choose them up.
