Zendaya and Robert Pattinson’s Wedding Plans Hit a Snag

Robert Pattinson and Zendaya fans rejoice: We’re only two months away from watching “The Drama” on the big screen.

The fourth feature from “Dream Scenario” director Kristoffer Borgli is one of IndieWire’s most anticipated movies of 2026, thanks in no small part to the pairing of its two stars, who play an engaged couple whose relationship takes an unexpected turn before their wedding. Now, A24 has released the first full trailer, giving us our best look yet at what promises to be a relationship drama that subverts expectations at every turn.

Written and directed by Borgli, “The Drama” also stars Mamoudou Athie, Alana Haim, and Hailey Gates. Ari Aster serves as an executive producer on the film through Square Peg, the production company he co-founded with Lars Knudsen.

“The Drama” marks Borgli’s fourth feature film as a director, with each of his first three films establishing him as a bold voice that can not easily be pigeonholed. He began with the meta energy drink documentary “DRIB” in 2017, followed by the pitch-black comedy “Sick of Myself” in 2022. But it was his 2024 Nicolas Cage vehicle “Dream Scenario” that brought Borgli something of a mainstream breakthrough, as the surreal drama became a breakout indie hit after A24 released it theatrically following a premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.

While plot details beyond the premise of “The Drama” remain scarce, it’s worth noting that Pattinson drove himself “crazy” trying to analyze the script — before he turned to Zendaya to calm him down.

“We had a scene together that was driving me crazy,” Pattinson said during a 2025 interview with the French publication Premiere. “I was desperately looking for its meaning, writing pages and pages of textual analysis. I ended up calling Zendaya the night before shooting the scene. I shared my doubts with her, I spoke for two hours, and after a while, very calmly, she made me understand that the line just said what it meant to say, that there was no hidden meaning.”

A24 is set to release “The Drama” in theaters on Friday, April 3. Watch the trailer below.
