For his first Met Gala, Finn Wolfhard doubled down on a fashion relationship

Finn Wolfhard is buzzing proper now. He’s preparing for his first-ever Met Galaand tonight he is in Thom Browne: the summary clothes shop of shrunken uniforms. It’s not a random pairing, both. He’s been sporting the model for years – on press runs, on tour, simply day after day – so this is not a kind of one-night-only specials.

“I’ve loved their clothes for so many years now,” he says over Zoom. “They’ve been really generous with me in the past. I’ve worn a lot of their knitwear and a lot of their stuff just in my daily life, and also to promote films. “They actually dressed me for my band’s first tour, so I already had a relationship with the label.”

So when the Met invited came through the door, the decision was easy: “I think they probably just saw that I was a fan of the clothes and, yeah, here we are.”

For fashion’s biggest nightWolfhard is stepping into deconstructed tailoring – a black high-twist wool suit, slick trousers, a utility skirt belt. The fit is still coming together as we speak. “It’s a really beautiful suit,” he says. “There’s patterns which can be actually fascinating, which can be tremendous refined. If you take a look at a photograph of it, you do not actually decide it up till your eye form of catches it.”

Even though Thom Browne is an American brand, it spiritually syncs up with Wolfhard’s taste: “vintage, comfortable, British”. There’s a mod affect in there, there’s thrifted trousers, there are bits of Japanese workwear (he is a large fan of Tokyo label Beams, FYI). “It’s form of a mishmash of a bunch of issues. I simply love something that is type of British-inspired.”

Fashion, for Wolfhard, isn’t about locking into one lane. It shifts. “My relationship to it is always changing,” he says. “I’m at all times having new obsessions with completely different durations and completely different garments. I see it as a solution to specific your self, not one thing the place you are feeling buttoned up or such as you’re sporting one thing you do not really wish to put on.”
