“Today the FBI with federal, state and local law enforcement is involved in court-authorized law enforcement activity as part of an ongoing fraud investigation,” a Justice Department spokesperson stated.
A legislation enforcement supply stated this isn’t an immigration enforcement operation.
The Minnesota Department of Youth, Children and Families (DCYF), the state company that oversees day care licensing, stated the search warrants executed on Tuesday “are a result of state, county, and federal agencies working together to root out fraud and hold bad actors accountable.”
“The Department of Children, Youth, and Families, works every day to protect program integrity,” DCYF stated in a press release. “We are pleased to see the state’s Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and our federal partners taking strong action based on information we have shared with them. We will continue sharing information with law enforcement to ensure they are able to conduct thorough criminal investigations.”
Republican legislators in Congress and on the Minnesota State Capitol positioned the blame for fraud on DFL Gov. Tim Walz.
“The legacy of Tim Walz is a legacy of fraud,” Senate Minority Leader Mark Johnson, R-East Grand Forks stated. “When Walz took office in 2019, reports of massive childcare fraud began exploding across the headlines. Seven years later, Minnesota is still grappling with systemic abuse; not only in childcare, but in housing assistance, support for vulnerable adults, medical transportation, and more.”
House Majority Whip Tom Emmer famous that “Quality Learning Center,” one of many amenities featured in a viral video on purported day care fraud final 12 months, was among the many areas that had been raided on Tuesday.
“REMINDER! @Tim_Walzthis happened on your watch. How do you let taxpayer dollars go to a scam education center that’s title isn’t even spelled correctly?” Emmer posted onpreviously Twitter.
Governor Tim Walz offered the next assertion on fraud in Minnesota:
“If you commit fraud in Minnesota you’re going to get caught — and that’s exactly what we saw today. We catch criminals when state and federal agencies share information. Joint investigations work, and securing justice depends on it.”
