The Congress of Peru elects José María Balcázar as president till July

José María Balcázar would be the new president of Peru.

The Peruvian Congress elected him as successor to José Jerí, whom he faraway from workplace on Tuesday via a movement of censure as a result of scandals that plagued his presidency.

Balcázar beat the candidate María del Carmen Alva, from Acción Popular, within the second and decisive vote of the congressmen by 64 votes to 46.

The different two candidates, Edgar Reymundo, from the Democratic Bloc, and Héctor Acuña, from Honor and Democracy, have been discarded within the first vote.

Balcázar’s victory got here in a second vote after not one of the candidates reached the vast majority of votes required to be proclaimed president within the first.
