New York Giants, Cleveland Browns competing for assistant Daniel Stern

The New York Giants and Cleveland Browns are seeking the services of Baltimore Ravens assistant Daniel Stern amid a flurry of coaching staff reshuffling this offseason.

Stern, who has spent 10 seasons with the Ravens and two as director of football strategy and assistant quarterbacks coach, has been a key contributor in Baltimore.

He assists with quarterback development in a room led by Lamar Jackson, helps craft playbooks and call sheets, conducts opponent analysis and self-scouting, and advised former head coach John Harbaugh on in-game clock management, challenges, situational football, rules, and officiating.

A Yale graduate (magna cum laude, cognitive science, 2016), the Baltimore native began his coaching path as an undergraduate assistant for the Bulldogs.

The competition stems from recent moves: John Harbaugh, Stern’s former Ravens boss, took over as Giants head coach and has been building his staff after preferred offensive coordinator Todd Monken opted for the Browns’ head coaching vacancy instead.

Monken, who had been in talks with the Giants, has quickly begun assembling his Cleveland team, reportedly eyeing former Ravens assistants as well.

Reports indicate the Browns are interviewing Stern for an associate head coach role, a position that would offer significant responsibility under Monken. Meanwhile, the Giants, facing their own staff needs and ties to the Ravens tree through Harbaugh, are also in the mix for Stern’s expertise in strategy and quarterback coaching.
